Clan Confederation Castle Sophienburg On our meeting at the Highland Games Lochearnhead 2008 our Clan Chief Donald MacLaren of MacLaren encouraged us to form our own Clan MacLaren Society Germany. We started this challenge full of spirits and enthusiasm. November 1, 2009 members of the three Clan Societies came together to write down German-Scottish clan history. In the evening of this memorable day, the Chiefs Markus Kewitz of Clan MacKenzie, Horst-D. Deckert of Clan MacLaren, and the host Siggi Schierstedt-MacKay of Clan MacKay met to talk about combined activities. The three Chiefs decided to create Clan friendship. They choose Castle Sophienburg, particularly suitable home of the Schierstedt-MacKays as their common headquarters. Sophienburg is situated in the woody hills of the Munster area, North Rhine Westfalia. Meanwhile it is decided to celebrate there Robert Burns Night dated January 24./25., 2009 and the celtic beginning of a new year Samhain on October 31 / November 1, 2009 in commemoration of our historic confederation.
